Stanya Michalica was born in Brno Czechoslovakia, where, in 1962, she graduated from the School of Photography. The following year she held her first show in Brno, and then went on to display her work at the International Salon of Photography in Singapore from 1963-1966. Stanya settled in Fredericton New Brunswick in 1977, where she opened her photography studio. Locally, she has had numerous solo exhibits at the UNB Memorial Hall Art Centre and Faculty Club, the School of Craft and Design, and the St. John Ganong Gallery, to name just a few. She's also been involved in public speaking, holding and judging photography contests for Fredericton and New Brunswick art lovers and photography hobbyists. Highlights of her career include major awards from both the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) and Maritime Professional Photography Association (MPPA), several national Best in Category awards, and numerous photographs accepted into prestigious traveling exhibits, publications, and the PPOC Archives. Stanya is nationally accredited in portrait and wedding photography and has been awarded the prestigious titles of Craftsman and Master of Photographic Arts with First Bar - placing her among the elite photographers of Canada.
